Deputy Sheriff Donta Manuel While performing his official duties on November 28, 2001, Deputy Donta Manuel was one of several PBSO Deputies who were responding to a report of a stolen vehicle that had just occurred. Other PBSO Deputies were already pursuing the stolen vehicle so Deputy Donta Manuel partnered up with Deputy Jonathan Wallace and the two Deputies installed tire deflation devices in the roadway. While operating the tire deflation devices, Deputy Manuel and Deputy Wallace were struck by a pursuing PBSO patrol car and were killed. |
Deputy Sheriff Jonathan Wallace While performing his official duties on November 28, 2007, Deputy Jonathan Wallace was one of several PBSO Deputies who were responding to a report of a stolen vehicle that had just occurred. Other PBSO Deputies were already pursuing the stolen vehicle so Deputy Jonathan Wallace partnered up with Deputy Donta Manuel and the two Deputies installed tire deflation devices in the roadway. Deputy Sheriff Donald Schavolt While performing his official duties on March 31, 2002, Deputy Donald Schavolt was engaged in a violent struggle with a prisoner. Moments after the struggle Deputy Schavolt was receiving medial attention at Wellington Regional Hospital and went into cardiac arrest. All possible attempts were made by the medical staff to save Deputy Schavolt, unfortunately he died at Wellington Regional Hospital as a result of the violent struggle with the prisoner. |
Deputy Sheriff Garry Hobbs While performing his official duties on June 7, 1991, Deputy Garry Hobbs was engaged in the recovery of a stolen vehicle. During the recovery, Deputy Hobbs was accidently sprayed with a lethal level of herbicide by a local crop duster. The exposure to the poisons in the herbicide proved to be far too lethal for physicians to counteract. After a long and courageous battle, Deputy Garry Hobbs lost his fight against the poison and died on December 12, 2000. |
Deputy Sheriff Richard Oetinger While performing his official duties, Deputy Richard Oetinger sustained a serious physical injury in 1979. On December 6, 2000, Deputy Richard Oetinger died as a direct result of medical complications from the original injury he sustained in 1979. |
Deputy Sheriff James Hunt While performing his official duties on February 26, 1993, Sergeant James "Rocky" Hunt responded to a bank alarm. Sergeant Hunt arrived to discover 4 suspicious subjects running across the street, away from the bank. After approaching the 4 subjects, Sergeant Hunt was fatally shot by one of the subjects. |
Deputy Sheriff Anita Pospisil While performing her official duties on March 25, 1992, a speeding truck ran through a red light at an intersection and crashed into the side of Deputy Pospisil's patrol vehicle. Deputy Pospisil died from the injuries sustained during the crash. |
Deputy Sheriff Kevin Mathews While performing his official duties on March 6, 1992, Deputy Kevin Kevin Mathews was part of a detail providing an escort for a Presidential Candidate. During the escort, Deputy Mathews was struck by a vehicle that crossed into the path of his motorcycle. Deputy Mathews died from the injuries sustained during the crash. |

Deputy Sheriff Frank Genovese While performing his official duties on June 3, 1982, Deputy Frank Genovese responded to a SWAT operation that involved an armed and barricaded suspect. During the SWAT operation, the suspect fatally shot Deputy Genovese. |
Deputy Sheriff Richard Landes While performing his official duties on April 18, 1981, Deputy Richard Landes was assisting with the removal of a vehicle from a canal. During the vehicle removal, Deputy Landes was struck by a passing vehicle and killed. |
Deputy Sheriff James Fogleman While performing his official duties on March 25, 1963, Sergeant James Fogleman was transporting a critically injured child to an area hospital. During the transport, Sergeant Fogleman's patrol vehicle was struck by another vehicle causing Sergeant Fogleman's vehicle to leave the roadway and crash. Sergeant Fogleman died at the hospital while being treated for the injuries sustained during the crash. |
Deputy Sheriff Frederick Baker While performing his official duties on January 9, 1921, Deputy Frederick Baker was leading a Posse into the camp of the outlaw "Ashley Gang". The Ashley Gang opened fire into the Posse and Deputy Baker was fatally shot. |
Deputy Sheriff George Douglass While performing his official duties on August 27, 1921, Deputy George Douglass and his son were attempting to execute an arrest warrant for a theft that occurred in Bare Beach. Deputy Douglass and his son were both shot. Deputy Douglass sustained a fatal gunshot wound. |
